TPMC863 – 4-Channel High-Speed Synch/Asynch Serial Interface PMC by TEWS Technologies

The TEWS Technologies TPMC863 is a single-width 32-bit PMC module providing four high-speed synchronous and asynchronous serial communication channels implemented in FPGA logic, supporting EIA-232, EIA-422, EIA-449, EIA-530, EIA-530A, V.35, V.36, and X.21 physical interfaces with data rates up to 10 Mbit/s synchronous. With 512-longword FIFOs per channel, DMA bus mastering, front panel HD68 I/O, and rear P14 connectivity, it is built for defence, simulation, and industrial embedded systems requiring multi-protocol high-speed serial I/O. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for TEWS Technologies embedded I/O solutions.
Description
The TEWS Technologies TPMC863 is a single-width 32-bit PMC serial interface module conforming to IEEE P1386.1, providing four independently configurable high-speed synchronous and asynchronous serial channels for engineers building demanding communication, simulation, or defence embedded systems. The serial communication controller is implemented entirely in FPGA logic alongside a PCI 2.1 compliant bus master/slave interface, guaranteeing long-term availability and enabling future functional enhancements — a critical consideration for programmes with extended support requirements. Each of the four channels supports multiple physical interfaces selectable individually per channel in software: EIA-232, EIA-422, EIA-449, EIA-530, EIA-530A, V.35, V.36, and X.21, with maximum data rates of 10 Mbit/s synchronous and 2 Mbit/s asynchronous using internal or external clocks. EIA-232 is supported up to 115.2 kbit/s. Three onboard oscillators — 14.7456 MHz for standard async baud rates, 24 MHz for non-standard rates, and 10 MHz for the 10 Mbit/s synchronous rate — cover the full operating range. Each channel has a 512-longword (32-bit) transmit and receive FIFO, and data transfers on the PCI bus are handled by TPMC863-initiated DMA cycles to minimise host CPU intervention, ensuring high throughput in real-time environments. Front panel I/O is via an HD68 SCSI-3 connector, with rear I/O on P14. Multiprotocol transceivers support all listed physical interfaces per channel. The module operates from -40 to +85 °C and software support is available for Linux, Windows, VxWorks, QNX, and Integrity. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for TEWS Technologies embedded I/O solutions.
