XMC403

XMC403 – Dual 10GbE Switched Mezzanine Card by Kontron

The Kontron XMC403 is a dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet switched mezzanine card designed for high-speed embedded networking applications in defence, aerospace, and industrial computing. Built around the Intel X710-BM2 controller, it delivers two full-duplex 10GbE SFP+ ports over a PCIe Gen 3.0 x8 host interface with hardware-accelerated CPU offload. Supporting both optical fibre and direct-attach copper, the XMC403 complies with VITA 42.0 and IEEE 1386.1 and carries an MTBF of nearly 930,000 hours. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Kontron embedded computing solutions.
Description
The Kontron XMC403 is a dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet switched mezzanine card engineered for embedded computing platforms that demand high-throughput network connectivity with minimal CPU overhead. At its core is the Intel X710-BM2 Ethernet controller, delivering two independent 10GbE SFP+ interfaces connected to the host via a PCI Express Gen 3.0 x8 interface, enabling full line-rate bidirectional throughput without burdening the host processor. The hardware offload capabilities built into the Intel X710-BM2 free the host CPU from network I/O processing, a critical advantage in latency-sensitive or compute-intensive applications such as signal processing, data acquisition, communications infrastructure, and storage over Ethernet. The XMC403 supports both optical fibre transceivers and direct-attach copper cables through its dual SFP+ cages, offering the flexibility to match the physical layer to the specific deployment environment. Intelligent auto-detection of copper network configurations further simplifies commissioning. Compliant with VITA 42.0, VITA 42.3, VITA 42.6, and IEEE 1386.1, the XMC403 integrates cleanly into standard single-board computer and carrier card ecosystems. The card measures 74 x 149mm as a single XMC module and weighs just 100g, with an exceptional MTBF of 929,999 hours calculated to MIL-HDBK-217 FN2 Ground Benign at 30°C. It operates between 0 and +50°C, stores from -55 to +85°C, and is rated for operation up to 4,000 metres altitude. A coated variant, the XMC403-C, is available for enhanced environmental protection. Software support covers Linux Debian, Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, and Windows Server 2022. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Kontron embedded computing solutions.
