The Hirschmann BXS40-12TX-EECC-LV-2A is the low-voltage variant of the all-Gigabit BXS40 managed railway switch, powered at 24 VDC and wall-mounted in a compact IP40 metal enclosure built for onboard use in trains, trams, and buses. Unlike the BXS30 series which mixes Gigabit and Fast Ethernet ports, the BXS40-12TX-EECC-LV-2A provides 12 x Gigabit Ethernet M12 X-coded ports across the full port lineup, delivering consistently higher and more uniform throughput for demanding onboard applications such as video surveillance backbones, passenger entertainment distribution, and high-density device connectivity. Operating at just 13.1W on a 24 VDC supply, the switch is highly efficient in the power-constrained auxiliary power environments typical of light rail and tram vehicles. With an outstanding MTBF of 1,444,112 hours at 25°C, it is engineered for the extended service intervals that rolling stock operators require. HiOS 2A Layer 2 advanced software supports TSN 802.1Qbv on interfaces 1/1–1/3, alongside full VLAN, IGMP Snooping, QoS/DSCP, and jumbo frame management. Redundancy options include HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC 62439-2) in both manager and client roles, MSTP, Sub Ring Manager, and LACP. Industrial protocols covered include PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, and Modbus TCP, while time synchronisation is provided via PTPv2 Boundary Clock, PTPv2 Transparent Clock, 802.1AS, and SNTP. The switch carries EN 50155, EN 45545 HL3, EN 50121-4, and NEMA TS2 transport certifications alongside IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 cyber security certification, backed by 802.1X, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, TACACS+, LDAP, secure boot, and signed firmware.
