The Hirschmann BXS40-12TX-EECC-HV-2A is a managed industrial Ethernet switch from the BXS40 series, delivering 12 x Gigabit Ethernet M12 X-coded ports across a wall-mounted IP40 metal enclosure purpose-built for onboard railway and bus applications. Unlike the BXS30 series which combines GE and FE ports, the BXS40-12TX-EECC-HV-2A provides a fully all-Gigabit port lineup, making it ideal for network segments requiring higher and more uniform bandwidth, such as onboard video surveillance backbones, high-definition passenger entertainment distribution, or dense device connectivity environments on modern rolling stock. Operating on a 72–110 VDC supply with only 11.9W consumption, the switch is efficient in power-constrained vehicle environments. It runs HiOS 2A Layer 2 advanced software with TSN 802.1Qbv support on interfaces 1/1–1/3, enabling deterministic communication for time-sensitive onboard applications alongside full VLAN, QoS, IGMP Snooping, and jumbo frame management. Redundancy options include HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC 62439-2) in manager and client roles, MSTP, Sub Ring Manager, LACP, and link backup. Industrial protocol support covers PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, and Modbus TCP, while time synchronisation is provided via PTPv2 Boundary Clock, PTPv2 Transparent Clock, 802.1AS, and SNTP. The switch holds EN 50155, EN 45545 HL3, EN 50121-4, and NEMA TS2 transport certifications together with IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 certification. Security features include 802.1X, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, IP Source Guard, TACACS+, LDAP, secure boot, and signed firmware. MTBF is 698,449 hours at 25°C.
