The Hirschmann BXS30-12TX-EECC-HV-2A is a wall-mounted managed industrial Ethernet switch built specifically for onboard use in trains and buses, combining a compact IP40 metal housing with advanced HiOS 2A Layer 2 switching software. The 12-port M12 configuration includes 4 x Gigabit Ethernet X-coded ports and 8 x Fast Ethernet D-coded ports, all using M12 connectors optimised for the vibration and shock conditions of mobile transport environments. Operating on a 72–110 VDC supply with just 9.7W consumption, the BXS30-12TX-EECC-HV-2A is well-suited to the traction power systems used in heavy and light rail vehicles. The HiOS 2A software platform supports TSN 802.1Qbv on interfaces 1/1–1/3, enabling time-sensitive applications alongside standard Layer 2 features including VLAN (802.1Q), IGMP Snooping, QoS/DSCP prioritisation, and jumbo frame support. Redundancy is handled through HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC 62439-2) in both manager and client roles, MSTP, Sub Ring Manager, and LACP link aggregation. Time synchronisation covers PTPv2 Boundary and Transparent Clock, 802.1AS, and SNTP. Industrial protocol support includes PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, and Modbus TCP. The switch holds EN 50155, EN 45545 HL3, EN 50121-4, and NEMA TS2 transport certifications and has achieved IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 industrial cyber security certification, reflecting its comprehensive 802.1X, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, TACACS+, LDAP, secure boot, and signed firmware security capability.
