Description
The Hirschmann BRS20-8TX/2FX-SM-EEC brings together two critical capabilities for demanding industrial network deployments: an Extended Environmental Class operating range of -40 to +70°C, and single mode SC fibre uplinks capable of reaching up to 32.5 km on 9/125 µm fibre with a 16 dB link budget at 1300 nm. This Hirschmann BOBCAT switch is designed for network engineers who need to connect remote industrial sites, outdoor substations, or geographically dispersed infrastructure in climates where standard temperature ratings are insufficient — including Nordic, Arctic, and high-altitude industrial environments. The BRS20-8TX/2FX-SM-EEC provides 10 ports in total: 8x 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 and 2x 100BASE-FX single mode SC fibre uplinks, all in a compact fanless DIN Rail housing with IP30 protection and an MTBF exceeding 2.28 million hours. TSN 802.1Qbv on interfaces 1/1 to 1/3 ensures deterministic, low-latency communication for real-time industrial control. Industrial protocols including PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and IEC 61850 are fully supported. Redundancy capabilities include HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC 62439-2) as manager and client, RSTP, Link Aggregation with LACP, and Redundant Network Coupling. Security features cover 802.1X port-based access control, RADIUS, VLAN-based ACLs, Secure Boot, signed firmware, and DoS prevention, with USB-C local management for rapid commissioning.
