BRS20-8TX/2FX-HL – Hazardous Location Managed Switch by Hirschmann

The Hirschmann BRS20-8TX/2FX-HL is a hazardous location rated managed industrial Ethernet switch within the Hirschmann BOBCAT series, carrying ISA12.12.01 certification to support deployment in classified areas such as petrochemical plants, refineries, gas terminals, and other environments where explosive atmospheres may be present. The switch provides 10 ports — 8x 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 and 2x 100BASE-FX multimode SC fibre uplinks supporting up to 5000 m on 50/125 µm fibre — in a fanless DIN Rail housing with IP30 protection and operating temperature of 0 to +60°C. The BOBCAT BRS20-8TX/2FX-HL supports TSN 802.1Qbv on interfaces 1/1 to 1/3, providing the deterministic, time-sensitive networking capability increasingly required in modern industrial control architectures. Industrial protocol compatibility includes PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and IEC 61850, enabling seamless integration with PLCs, DCS systems, and SCADA platforms. Network reliability is upheld through HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC 62439-2) as both client and manager, RSTP, Link Aggregation with LACP, and Redundant Network Coupling. Security features cover 802.1X port-based access control, RADIUS, VLAN-based ACLs, Secure Boot, signed firmware, and DoS prevention. USB-C local management enables efficient device commissioning and replacement. With an MTBF exceeding 2.28 million hours and cUL61010 safety approval, this switch provides long-term reliability in classified industrial zones.
