The Hirschmann BOBCAT BRS20-24TX is Hirschmann’s highest copper-port-density Fast Ethernet BOBCAT switch variant, providing 24x 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 ports in a single compact fanless DIN rail unit for industrial automation and process control environments that need to aggregate large numbers of copper-connected field devices. Developed by Hirschmann, a Belden brand with a long track record in industrial Ethernet, the BRS20-24TX features Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN 802.1Qbv) support across interfaces 1/1 to 1/3, bringing deterministic real-time communication capability to dense machine and process networks where traffic scheduling and latency control are increasingly critical. The switch operates from 0 to +60°C, powered by dual redundant 12 to 24 VDC inputs, with USB-C for local management and device replacement, all within an IP30-rated PC-ABS DIN rail housing. For network resilience, the BRS20-24TX supports HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC62439-2) as both client and manager, RSTP, Link Aggregation with LACP, Link Backup, and Redundant Network Coupling, providing the high-availability ring and star topology capabilities expected in manufacturing, energy, and process infrastructure. Industrial protocol support spanning PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and IEC61850 enables direct connectivity with major PLC, SCADA, and protection relay platforms without additional protocol gateways. Security features include Secure Boot, signed firmware images, 802.1X port-based access control, RADIUS authentication, VLAN-based ACLs, and DoS prevention, addressing the OT cybersecurity requirements of modern industrial networks. Management is available via HTML5 web GUI, CLI, SNMP v1/v2/v3, SSHv2, HTTPS, IPv6, and PTPv2 clock functions.
