The Hirschmann IT MTS2648-6X-B is a MAMMUTHUS series Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet access switch that provides network engineers with a high-density copper access layer combined with 10G SFP+ uplinks in an economical 1U rack platform with a fixed single power supply. The switch delivers 48 FE/GE TX copper ports for connecting end devices, workstations, IP phones, and access points at Gigabit speeds, while 6 x 1/10G SFP+ uplink slots provide flexible 1G or 10G backbone connectivity to distribution and core switches. At only 320 mm depth and 75W power consumption, the MTS2648-6X-B is well-suited to shallow rack enclosures and space-constrained environments without sacrificing port density. The basic software covers all essential Layer 2 switching functions including 4K VLAN with QinQ, STP/RSTP/MSTP, link aggregation with 802.3ad, QoS traffic classification with SP, WRR, and SP+WRR scheduling, IGMP snooping, ERPS ring redundancy per G.8032, and RSPAN for remote traffic analysis. Security features include IPv4/v6 ACL, 802.1X, RADIUS, TACACS+, SSH, DHCP snooping, dynamic ARP inspection, IP source guard, and protection against LAND, SYN flood, Smurf, and Ping of Death attacks. Management is via console, HTTP, Telnet, SSH, and SNMP v1/v2/v3, with sFlow traffic analysis and SLA OAM functions.
