MSM20-4FX – 4-Port Multimode Fiber Fast Ethernet Media Module by Hirschmann

The Hirschmann MSM20-4FX is a hot-swappable Fast Ethernet media module for PowerMICE MSP switches, delivering four 100BASE-FX ports over multimode SC fiber. Supporting 50/125 µm fiber up to 5000 m and 62.5/125 µm fiber up to 4000 m, it is designed for industrial automation and process control networks requiring flexible fiber connectivity on the PowerMICE modular switching platform. Operating from 0 to 60°C with IEC 60068 vibration and shock ratings, onboard diagnostic LEDs, and backplane power supply, it suits factory, energy, and infrastructure environments. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Hirschmann industrial networking solutions.
Description
The Hirschmann MSM20-4FX is a Fast Ethernet media module engineered for use in Hirschmann PowerMICE MSP modular switches, providing four 100BASE-FX ports over multimode SC fiber connectors for flexible industrial network expansion. As part of the PowerMICE hot-swappable media module ecosystem, the MSM20-4FX can be combined with any other compatible media module in available switch slots, enabling network designers to build precisely the port density and media mix required without switch downtime. On 50/125 µm multimode fiber, the MSM20-4FX achieves link distances up to 5000 m with an 8 dB link budget at 1300 nm, while on 62.5/125 µm fiber, the reach is up to 4000 m with an 11 dB link budget — making it suitable for large plant, campus, or substation fiber runs. The module draws only 5W via the PowerMICE switch backplane, eliminating the need for separate power cabling. Diagnostic LEDs for power, mode, and link/data status provide immediate visual feedback on port and module health. The MSM20-4FX operates between 0 and 60°C, withstands IEC 60068-2-6 vibration and IEC 60068-2-27 shock, and meets EMC standards including EN 61000-4 series immunity requirements and EN 55032 Class A emissions. Approvals include EN61131, UL60950, cUL508, NEMA TS2, and C-Tick, with a 60-month guarantee. It is well suited to industrial automation, energy distribution, traffic management, and infrastructure networks that rely on the Hirschmann PowerMICE platform for modular fiber switching.
