CloudRail.Box Max – Industrial IIoT Edge Gateway for Shop Floor by Hirschmann

The Hirschmann CloudRail.Box Max is a powerful DIN rail-mounted industrial IoT edge gateway with an Intel Atom x6413E processor, 8GB LPDDR4 RAM, and 220GB storage, built for advanced edge computing in industrial environments. Supporting OPC-UA, Modbus, secondary sensors, VSEs, AWS IoT Greengrass v2, and Azure IoT Edge, it connects multiple shop floor data sources to the cloud with TPM 2.0 security and end-to-end encrypted connectivity. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Hirschmann IIoT gateway solutions.
Description
The Hirschmann CloudRail.Box Max is a high-capability industrial IoT edge gateway designed to serve as the central connection point between shop floor automation devices and cloud platforms, including AWS IoT Greengrass v2, Azure IoT Edge, and the CloudRail Edge Functions environment. Built around an Intel Atom x6413E processor with 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 220GB of container and data storage, it provides the compute resources needed to run advanced edge workloads, multi-source data aggregation, and containerised analytics applications directly at the factory edge without relying on round-trip cloud processing. The CloudRail.Box Max supports all CloudRail connectivity methods — OPC-UA, Modbus, secondary sensors, and VSE integration — enabling a single gateway unit to connect a broader range of field devices and data sources than entry-level IoT gateways. Three 2.5GbE RJ45 ports via Intel I226-IT provide wired LAN connectivity, while an RS-485 port, optional RS-232, and an HDMI interface complete the I/O. A Nano-SIM slot is present in the hardware for optional cellular use in applicable configurations. The CloudRail.Box Max differs from the Max 4G variant in that it does not include a factory-fitted 4G LTE module, making it the preferred choice for wired network environments where cellular connectivity is not required. Security is delivered via an integrated firewall, TPM 2.0, end-to-end encrypted communication, and remote security patches managed through the CloudRail.DMC cloud platform. The compact 130 x 90 x 30 mm steel and aluminium DIN rail housing operates at -20°C to +60°C on 12–24V DC and holds CE, FCC, and UL 62368-1 approvals. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Hirschmann IIoT gateway solutions.
