The Hirschmann BOBCAT BRS50-16TX/4SFP-EEC is the Extended Environmental Class variant of the 20-port BOBCAT switch with 2.5 Gbit/s SFP uplink capability, combining 16 x 10/100/1000BASE-TX RJ45 copper ports with four SFP slots accepting 100 Mbit/s, 1 Gbit/s, or 2.5 Gbit/s fiber transceivers in a hardened metal DIN Rail housing rated from -40 to +70°C. Part number 942170070, the 2.5 Gbit/s SFP slots allow engineers to increase backbone uplink bandwidth 2.5-fold over standard Gigabit connections without hardware changes — a decisive advantage for outdoor substations, railway infrastructure, and harsh manufacturing sites where future-proofing the network backbone is critical and equipment replacement is costly. The metal EEC housing provides superior mechanical and EMC protection for extreme temperature and vibration environments. As part of the BOBCAT TSN platform, the BRS50-16TX/4SFP-EEC supports IEEE 802.1Qbv alongside HIPER-Ring and MRP (IEC62439-2) redundancy, RSTP, LACP, IGMP snooping, QoS, and VLAN management. Industrial protocols include PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, IEC61850, and Modbus TCP. Security covers 802.1X, RADIUS, secure boot, signed firmware, and DoS prevention.
