Overview

The Hirschmann BOBCAT BRS40-16TX/4SFP is a fully managed all-Gigabit industrial DIN Rail switch combining 16 x 10/100/1000BASE-TX RJ45 ports with four SFP slots for 100 or 1000 Mbit/s fiber connectivity in a single compact housing. Part number 942170065, it is part of Hirschmann’s BOBCAT series — the first switch family to deliver Time-Sensitive Networking via IEEE 802.1Qbv, allowing engineers to build deterministic industrial Ethernet networks without modifying hardware. The four SFP uplink slots accept a wide range of fiber modules including single-mode, long-haul, and multimode transceivers, providing installation flexibility across large-scale plant and campus environments. The switch supports HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC62439-2), RSTP, and Link Aggregation with LACP to ensure network resilience and rapid failover. Its industrial protocol suite includes PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, IEC61850, and Modbus TCP. Comprehensive security features cover 802.1X port access control, RADIUS client and VLAN assignment, secure boot, signed firmware, DoS prevention, and VLAN-based ACL.
