BRS20-8TX/2FX-SM-HL – Hazardous Location Single Mode Switch by Hirschmann

The Hirschmann BRS20-8TX/2FX-SM-HL combines two specialised capabilities within the BOBCAT managed switch range: ISA12.12.01 hazardous location certification for deployment in explosive atmosphere environments, and two 100BASE-FX single mode SC fibre uplinks capable of spanning up to 32.5 km on 9/125 µm fibre. This Hirschmann switch is designed for engineers building industrial Ethernet networks that must traverse large distances within or between classified areas — such as oil refineries, gas processing plants, chemical facilities, and mining operations where both long-range fibre and hazardous area compliance are non-negotiable. The BRS20-8TX/2FX-SM-HL delivers 10 ports in total — 8x 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 and 2x single mode SC fibre uplinks — in a compact fanless DIN Rail form factor operating from 0 to +60°C with IP30 protection. TSN 802.1Qbv on interfaces 1/1 to 1/3 supports deterministic real-time Ethernet for precision process automation. Industrial protocols include PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and IEC 61850, enabling integration with the broadest range of control system platforms. HIPER-Ring, MRP (IEC 62439-2) as both manager and client, RSTP, Link Aggregation with LACP, and Redundant Network Coupling deliver comprehensive network resilience. Security is addressed through 802.1X, RADIUS, VLAN ACLs, Secure Boot, and signed firmware, with USB-C enabling local management and fast device replacement via AutoConfiguration Adapter.
