EPC-R3220 – ARM-Based IoT Gateway by Advantech

The EPC-R3220 from Advantech is a versatile ARM-based IoT gateway designed for industrial applications demanding reliable connectivity, low power consumption, and robust performance in challenging environments. Built around the TI Sitara AM3352 Cortex-A8 processor running at 800MHz, this RISC-based box computer delivers efficient processing power for edge computing and data collection tasks. The system includes 1GB of onboard DDR3-800 memory and 16GB of eMMC NAND Flash storage for the operating system, supplemented by 4MB SPI NOR Flash for the bootloader. Connectivity options are comprehensive, featuring dual 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet ports using RTL8211 transceivers for reliable network communication, dual RS-232/485 serial ports with 4-wire configuration supporting Modbus and OPC-UA protocols for seamless integration with industrial equipment, and 6 GPIOs for device control and status indication. The platform supports wireless expansion through onboard WiFi/BT IEEE 802.11ac/a/b/g/n 2×2 WLAN with Bluetooth 4.2, plus a Mini-PCIe slot for LTE module installation enabling remote cellular connectivity. Additional interfaces include USB 2.0 OTG, I2C, SPI via pin headers, Micro SD slot, and Nano SIM slot. The hardware watchdog timer using MSP430G2202 provides system protection with configurable timeout from 1 to 6553 seconds. Running Yocto Linux 2.4, the EPC-R3220 offers a flexible development environment for custom IoT applications. The compact design measuring 139 x 85 x 30mm supports both DIN-rail and wall mounting, operating reliably from -20 to 70°C with 12-24V DC power input and consuming just 4.7W under load.
