AL i.MX8M Mini LTE – Compact Fanless IoT Gateway with LTE Cat1 by Kontron

The Kontron AL i.MX8M Mini LTE is a compact fanless IoT gateway built on the NXP i.MX8M Mini quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, featuring an integrated LTE Cat1 module, dual Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, CAN 2.0B, and 4x digital I/O in a DIN rail-mountable stainless steel housing. Running the secure KontronOS Linux-based operating system with HAB Secure Boot and end-to-end encryption, it is designed for mobile IoT, edge computing, and wireless industrial communication applications. Available from Recab, your Nordic distributor for Kontron embedded computing solutions.
Description
The Kontron AL i.MX8M Mini LTE is a purpose-built fanless IoT gateway from the Kontron Automation-Line series, developed for engineers and system integrators who need a compact, secure, and connectivity-rich edge device for mobile IoT and industrial communication deployments. Powered by the NXP i.MX8M Mini with four Arm Cortex-A53 cores at 1.6GHz and one Cortex-M4 at 400MHz with 2D and 3D GPU, it delivers the processing capability needed for real-time control tasks, IoT data aggregation, and lightweight edge computing workloads. The integrated LTE Cat1 module provides wireless cellular connectivity with downlink speeds up to 10Mbps and uplink up to 5Mbps, with a Nano-SIM slot, making it an ideal alternative to wired network integration in environments where fixed infrastructure is unavailable or impractical. Memory is provided by 4GB LPDDR4 RAM with 32GB eMMC storage and a microSD card slot for expansion. Communication interfaces include one 1Gbit/s Ethernet, one 10/100 Ethernet, two USB 2.0 Host, one USB 2.0 OTG, RS-232, RS-485, CAN 2.0B, and four 24V digital I/O channels at up to 800mA. The unit runs KontronOS, a secure hardened Linux-based operating system, with HAB Secure Boot, two redundant system partitions for maximum uptime, end-to-end encryption of all connections, and separation of operating system and applications, ensuring industrial-grade security standards. The stainless steel IP20 housing measures 111 x 43 x 76mm and mounts on standard 35mm DIN rail per EN 60715, operating from 0°C to 55°C on 24V DC. CE certified. Expandable via the optional AL CAN I/O module for additional CAN, digital, and analogue I/O. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Kontron Automation-Line IoT gateway solutions.
