The Kontron COBALT 901 is a compact, mission-hardened embedded computer from the COBALT 400 Series, purpose-built for military, aerospace, and defence applications that require deterministic avionics bus communication alongside robust general-purpose processing and networking. The unit is sealed to IP67 and designed with no ITAR restrictions, simplifying export licensing for international programmes. At its core is an Intel Quad-Core E3-1505L processor running at 1.7 GHz, backed by 32GB of DDR4-2133 ECC RAM for reliable error-corrected operation in safety-critical environments. The key integration feature of the COBALT 901 is its MIL-STD-1553A/B interface providing two dual-redundant channels, enabling direct connection to legacy avionics buses found in fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, and ground vehicles without external bus interface hardware. Ethernet connectivity comprises two direct 10/100/1000BT ports and four additional 10/100/1000BT ports managed through an onboard L2 Ethernet switch, providing both direct host access and a flexible switched network segment. Storage consists of 128GB of fixed internal storage for OS and applications, with optional removable SSDs available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities via separate ordering. I/O includes 8 GPI, 4 GPO, 12 GPIO in LVTTL logic, four RS-422/485 configurable serial ports, USB 2.0 x3, USB 3.0 x1, and audio I/O. Video output covers HDMI/DVI and a VGA maintenance port. Power input accepts 18–36VDC nominal. Environmental compliance spans MIL-STD-461E EMI, MIL-STD-1275D, MIL-STD-704, RTCA/DO-160F sections 20–21, random vibration to 8.21 GRMS, and 40g shock, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +71°C. Supported operating systems include Linux Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Windows. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Kontron rugged computing solutions.
