The ADAM-5000/485 from Advantech is a versatile 4-slot distributed data acquisition and control system engineered for demanding industrial RS-485 network environments. Built around a 16-bit 80188 microprocessor, this robust platform delivers reliable performance for remote monitoring and control applications across manufacturing, process automation, and critical infrastructure installations. The system supports both ASCII command/response protocol and Modbus/RTU protocol with user-defined Modbus addressing, ensuring seamless integration with existing SCADA and HMI systems. Communication capabilities include data rates ranging from 1.2 to 115.2 kbps over distances up to 1.2 km, with support for up to 128 nodes in a single RS-485 daisy-chain network. The ADAM-5000/485 features comprehensive protection including 2,500 VDC communication line isolation, 3,000 VDC I/O module isolation, and transient protection on RS-485 lines and power input. Power reversal protection adds an additional layer of safety. Operating from an unregulated 10 to 30 VDC input with only 3W consumption, the system is highly efficient for distributed installations. Environmental specifications include an operating temperature range of -10 to 70°C and humidity tolerance of 5 to 95 percent non-condensing. The ABS+PC enclosure measures 231 x 110 x 75 mm and supports DIN-rail, wall, or rack mounting with optional mounting kits.
