EKI-1511 – 1-Port RS-232/422/485 Serial Device Server by Advantech

The Advantech EKI-1511 is an entry-level serial device server engineered to bridge legacy RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 serial devices with modern IP-based Ethernet networks. This versatile device enables PLCs, meters, sensors, barcode readers, and other serial equipment to connect seamlessly to Ethernet LANs, extending the life and utility of existing industrial infrastructure. The EKI-1511 supports multiple operation modes to suit various application requirements, including COM port redirection mode that ensures backward compatibility with legacy software by transparently redirecting standard serial operation calls. TCP server and client modes enable network software compatibility using standard network APIs, while peer-to-peer communication eliminates the need for intermediate host PCs. With a maximum baud rate of 230.4 kbps and support for up to five simultaneous host connections per serial port, the device delivers reliable connectivity for demanding industrial environments. Built-in 8 kV ESD protection safeguards all serial signals, while 2.25 kVDC magnetic isolation protects the Ethernet port. The rugged metal enclosure with wide operating temperature range from -40 to 75°C makes it suitable for harsh industrial conditions. Flexible mounting options include DIN-rail and wall mount configurations, and the compact dimensions of 46 x 85.1 x 21.2 mm allow installation in space-constrained environments. Configuration is straightforward via Windows utility or web browser, with SNMP MIB-II support for network management.
