EKI-1521/1522/1524 – Serial Device Server by Advantech

The Advantech EKI-1521, EKI-1522, and EKI-1524 serial device servers are designed to seamlessly connect RS-232/422/485 serial devices such as PLCs, meters, sensors, and barcode readers to IP-based Ethernet networks. These versatile industrial serial servers feature two independent 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports with separate MAC addresses, providing a redundant network mechanism that ensures continuous Ethernet connectivity even during network failures. The devices support comprehensive operation modes including COM port redirection for transparent Virtual COM port functionality, TCP and UDP server and client modes for network software compatibility using standard APIs, and peer-to-peer pair connection that eliminates the need for intermediate host PCs. Security is prioritized with features referencing the IEC 62443-4-2 standard, including secure operation modes, user management, LDAP, and RADIUS authentication. The serial communication capabilities are extensive, supporting RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 two-wire and four-wire configurations with software-selectable port types. Baud rates range from 50 bps to 921.6 kbps with any baud rate setting supported. The servers allow up to five hosts to access a single serial port simultaneously and can connect to up to 16 hosts in TCP client mode. Configuration options include Windows utility, Telnet console, and web browser access via HTTP or HTTPS. The product line offers variants to suit different environmental requirements. Standard models operate from minus 10 to 60 degrees Celsius, while I models support wide operating temperatures from minus 40 to 80 degrees Celsius. CI models add port-to-port isolation with 2 kV serial to Ethernet and serial to power isolation, plus surge protection of 1 kV line-to-line and 2 kV line-to-ground. All models feature rugged metal enclosures with IP30 rating and support DIN-rail or wall mounting. Hazardous location certifications include UL/cUL Class I Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2.
