DARC VX208 – VPX Rugged Mission Computer with GPU Option by Kontron

The Kontron DARC VX208 is a SWaP-C optimised VPX-based rugged mission computer built around the Intel Core i7-1185GRE quad-core processor with 32GB soldered ECC DDR4, designed for defence and military applications including CSIR, vetronics, and radar data processing. With dual 10GbE optical ports, dual DVI outputs, optional Nvidia GPU acceleration, MIL-STD-461F EMC compliance, MIL-DTL-38999 connectors, and ITAR-free status, it is manufactured in France. Available from Recab, your Nordic partner for Kontron rugged computing solutions.
Description
The Kontron DARC VX208 is a high-performance rugged mission computer from the DARC series, built on VPX technology and designed to meet the demanding SWaP-C constraints of military and defence programmes requiring powerful embedded processing, high-bandwidth networking, and optional GPU-accelerated video and AI workloads. The DARC VX208 is based on the 11th generation Intel Core i7-1185GRE quad-core processor running at 1.8 GHz with Intel VT-x virtualisation and TPM 2.0 secure boot, backed by 32GB of soldered DDR4 with ECC for reliable error-corrected processing in safety-critical environments. Its dual 10GBASE-SR optical Ethernet links make it directly suited to radar systems, sensor fusion platforms, and any application requiring very high bandwidth data movement between processing nodes. Two additional 1GBASE-T Gigabit Ethernet ports comply with STANAG 4754. Storage is provided by one internal M.2 SSD and one externally removable 256GB SSD tray for mission data. The MXM 3.1 type-A expansion slot enables GPU acceleration with default options including Nvidia RTX A1000 or A2000 for real-time video processing, image fusion, and AI inference, with other GPU options available on request. Serial I/O covers RS-232, RS-485 half-duplex, and RS-422, alongside up to 4 x USB 2.0 and optional USB 3.0. Two DVI-D single link outputs support dual-display operation for vetronics crew displays. Power input is +28VDC nominal per MIL-STD-1275E. Environmental compliance spans MIL-STD-810G for shock, vibration, dust, and drip, MIL-STD-461F for EMI/EMC, MIL-STD-1275E power, 0% to 95% humidity, salt fog, and fluid contamination testing. The operating temperature range reaches -40°C to +71°C depending on configuration. The DARC VX208 is manufactured in France and is ITAR-free, simplifying export for international programmes.
