Launch: Customizable multi spectral area cameras from JAI

Flex-Eye by JAI is a new and innovative camera concept that enables customization of the size and location of wavebands in JAI’s Fusion Series 2-CMOS and 3-CMOS prism-based multispectral cameras.

By combining the Flex-Eye customization process with the existing Fusion Series prism-based cameras, it is now possible for customers to design a multispectral camera that looks at specific visible and near infrared waveband ranges to meet the exact requirements of their vision application.

Like JAI’s standard Fusion Series multispectral cameras, the Flex-Eye process starts by allowing you to choose from a two- or three-sensor prism configuration outfitted with either 1.6-megapixel or 3.2-megapixel Sony Pregius CMOS global shutter imagers. After that, it is up to you. Define specific wavebands as narrow as 25nm wide, located exactly where you need them across the visible and NIR spectral ranges.

Configuration is simply made by using JAI’s own online Flex-Eye configurator. The online configurator provides an easy, step-by-step process to define your ideal solution. After specifying the number and type of sensors and the resolution an intuitive GUI let you drag and place wavebands on a spectral chart with built-in validation rules to guide you to a successful configuration.

Smart industrial vision solutions

Cameras can be used in many applications in an industrial setting. When harnessed with the power of today’s computing technology, they can provide manufacturers with fast, accurate data and insights.

Typically, industrial cameras fall into three main categories within the segment Smart industrial vision solutions :

1) Simple, sensor-like cameras
Some applications just require simple visuals to aid quality control. These cameras are easy to use and configure. They are often used for inline measurement systems, where a camera has a single function, such as checking whether parts or cables are in the correct position. The cameras act like sensors, and provide end-users with a simple ‘Yes/No’ functionality. The simplicity of these applications means the cameras do not need further intelligence built in.

2) Smart camera systems
Where more complexity is required within the application, ‘smart’ cameras can be configured that might provide data on several different functions. This allow users to do more analysis based on the results provided. These cameras have computing intelligence built-in, and therefore can provide independent, sophisticated data without requiring connection to external PCs.

Smart camera set-ups usually involve multiple cameras connected to the same controller, so data can be captured from all the cameras and then combined. By shooting from different angles, these cameras can capture low-resolution, high resolution, and 3D measurements in a broad range of applications.

Smart cameras are often used in the automotive industry. They provide quality control when sensors do not have the capacity or the power to check if measurements are correct. But their versatility and computing power means smart cameras are often the best choice for a broad range of applications across many different vertical markets.

3) PC vision
If the application is more complicated still, the smart camera hardware might not be able to produce the required data. In these scenarios, computers are used to provide the intelligence, and the camera simply provides the function it has been designed for.

PC Vision gives organizations a vast range of options in terms of the cameras, but gives them challenges when it comes to integration and programming. High quality, cost-effective cameras with specific functions can be selected to meet the demands of any application. For harsh outdoor environments in industries such as military or surveillance there are robust cameras. Some applications also require hardware to meet tough certification standards that might preclude the use of smart cameras.

Hirschmann GECKO switches

As one of the smallest managed Industrial Ethernet switches on the market, Hirschmann GECKO switches guarantee reliable data communication and provide security, diagnostic and redundancy functions at an outstanding price, setting new standards in cutting long-termoperating costs


Featuring four to eight Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbit/s) and two Gigabit Ethernet (100/1000 Mbit/s) SFP slots, plus the ability to mount on a DIN rail, the compact dimensions of the GECKO switches require little space. Your main responsibility and focus will be on the development of innovative embedded Computer systems in a collaborative cross functional team. You will be working closely with our Nordic and UK Engineering teams in benchmarking / debugging, test, setup and support of IPC- and embedded solutions, as well as being responsible for pre- and post-sales support activities. You will have to understand at depth our developments and product features, tools and design flows and facilitate adoption of these solutions with a variety of customer systems. Your task is to remove technical barriers to a sale and help close business. We expect you to be self-driven and to have a passion for quality in your profession. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills is mandatory.

Specific duties:

  • Stay on top of the technology and business to be an expert in your profession
  • Consult the clients through the process of design, testing and building on re-engineering and new product development projects
  • Interact closely with the leading technology vendors to understand the new technologies/architectures being rolled out
  • Proactively come up with Proof-Of-Concept (POC) designs for various use-cases/real-time applications leveraging the latest tools and technologies available
  • Drive the pre- and post-sales activities

Background, educations and skills:

  • BSc or MSc graduate from streams of Engineering such as Electronics and Communication (ECE), Electrical and Electronics (EEE), Computer Science / Informatics, Embedded Systems or Cybernetics.
  • Strong competence within Electronics, PC HW/BIOS/FW, Networks, Mechatronics, EMC/EMI, Cyber Security, Windows/Linus/RTOS etc.
  • Strong experience (5-10 years) from HW and SW design and development in a structured and QMS driven environment.  Experience from Project Management and Project Documentation is an advantage.
  • Business and Sales – must understand the nuances that drive the sales and procurement decisions.
  • Market and competition – have a proactive drive to understand the latest products, boards & tools available in the market, and the ability to leverage the market intelligence while consulting clients on their product designs.
  • Communications skills – Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills along with the willingness to travel. English is the company language, and it’s a requirement to master a Scandinavian language as well.
  • Team working skills – working as part of the engineering team, as well as interaction with the sales team, suppliers and customers, is a key part of the role.

Recab Success – Reach profit of 16% over budget

Despite challenges such as an IT-attack against the parent company Addtech in the fall of 2019 and the breakout of Covid-19 in the world towards the end of the financial year, Recab managed to achieve one of the best financial years ever, with a result of 16 % over budget for 2019/2020. Recab finish their financial year 2019/2020 with a revenue of 185 million SEK.
