1D/2D Code Reader SR-2000 Series – High resolution reading now possible

Functions for Even Greater Usability
Quantitatively confirm printing quality. Prevent causes of reading errors before they occur:
Matching level function – Check the reading margin using numerical values
Rather than confirming whether reading was possible or not, a code’s quality can be checked using a scale of 1 to 100. To prevent reading errors from occurring, the marking quality degradation is analysed and utilised for predictive maintenance such as feedback on the marking process.

Verification according to standard-specified print quality criteria
The SR-2000 Series offers a code verification function for tasks with growing importance including ensuring reading stability in later processes and offering support for print quality control requests from suppliers.
Complying with the new ISO/IEC 15416 standard, this function verifies both 2D codes and barcodes for a wide range of code verification support. This function can also be used for both “offline” and “inline” production.

Lighting attachment – One-touch mounting with no need for a power supply
The SR-2000 Series is available with a newly developed external lighting attachment that does not require a power supply while allowing codes to be illuminated from a variety of directions. This attachmentis effective for code verification functions or reading direct part markings, such as markings on targets with a mirror finished surface. Using this attachment greatly improves cost savings compared with general external lighting.

Functions that facilitate reading and data processing for greater on-site usability
Always-on function – Reading with minimal movement through overhead placement.
With conventional models, work occurred in three steps: Take the product in one hand. Take the handheld code reader in the other. Scan the code. Thanks to the SR-2000 Series’ “Always-On” function, reading is done just by taking the product in hand, and users will not even notice the light from the reader itself.

Advanced multi head function – Reading of an even larger field of view or of multiple surfaces. The SR-2000 Series not only offers an ultra-wide field of view but can also work in tandem with additional readers for an even wider field of view. Master stations are capable of summarising data from slave stations, allowing users to control multiple readers as if they were a single code reader. Because the host is not required to control multiple readers individually, programming work can be greatly reduced.

Data edit function – Customisable reading data output formatting
Thanks to the SR-2000 Series’ ability to offer customisable data output formats, programming corrections on the host side (PC, PLC, etc.) are not required, resulting in shorter data processing.

Success Case: Recab developed a camera solution for Military Surveillance

The light conditions are very challenging, from direct sunlight in to the camera to the dark of the middle of the night.
The customer needed an easy way to calibrate the system to get the optical center in the lens and camera to line up correctly.

Background to Recab Solution for case in Military Surveillance
The products is primarily used in border control and long-range surveillance. They are used all over the world so the system must work during all climates and weather conditions. This makes the demands on a camera very high and difficult.

Challenge for the Team players at Recab
The light conditions are very challenging, from direct sunlight in to the camera to the dark of the middle of the night.
Customer needed an easy way to calibrate the system to get the optical center in the lens and camera to line up correctly.
A way to keep the option of long exposure times, that is larger than 1s.
Easy integration with current set up.

Solution for the customer
By choosing a camera from Imperx with a Sony IMX265 sensor we got better resolution and light sensitivity than the previous camera. With HD-SDI interface it was the same as before, so ease of integration was accomplished. The camera also works in a wide temperature range -30 to +75 degrees witch makes the implementation easier for the customer.

The calibration was fixed by an mechanical change to the camera so that the front plate holding the lens and the rest of the camera was separated and adjustable. This saved the customer a lot of time in the calibration step.

A firmware change allowed for longer exposure times than the sensor normally supports.

Full HD resolution without loss of frame rate and better light sensitivity gives the operator a better image.

The timing slot on most commercially available backplanes supports one or two 10GBASE-KR pipes and PR A11/61d-RCR is controlled using one or other of these pipes.  Bussed clock signals are also supported for backwards compatibility with older VPX systems.

Background to Recab Solution
A Swedish metal manufacturer had problems with reading DPM (Direct Part Marking) codes for track and trace applications. The product goes thru several stages like heating and panting etc. The code must be readable thru the whole process.

Challenge for the Team Players at Recab
Due to variation in light and reflections the code reader customer used was not able to read such codes. The time and waste of material on misreading becomes very costly and thus not profitable.

Solution for the customer
Recab went out at customer site and set up our code readers with the smart artificial intelligence software. The system then optimizes the settings to be able to read the code. The code could then be read with accuracy. The product that solve the problem is Keyence SR-1000 and SR-2000 series – a fixed mount readers with an easy handling for the customer.

Extra Facts – What is Barcode/Two-dimensional Code Verification?
“Barcode verification” refers to checking the marking quality of CODE39, CODE128, and EAN barcodes. Barcodes are used in a variety of fields such as FA, distribution, food, wholesale, and medical products.

“Two-dimensional code verification” refers to checking the marking quality of DataMatrix symbols and QR code symbols. Two-dimensional codes have spread to a wide variety of fields, and there are many cases in which the same two-dimensional code is read at multiple work sites.

Examples include between automotive parts suppliers and automobile manufacturers, between medicine manufacturers and pharmacies, and between smartphone module manufacturers and assembly manufacturers.

Two-dimensional codes are marked on key parts at the part or module manufacturer and are read at the assembly manufacturer. This makes it possible to obtain information such as the product characteristics and serial number, which is put to use in maintaining production and quality.Barcodes or two-dimensional codes that are difficult to read hinder productivity. Various code verification standards have been developed as quantitative guidelines aimed at eliminating this problem.

With improved X-axis and Z-axis precision, it’s possible to holder tighter tolerances over a wider inspection area. This significantly expands the types of applications that can use 3D measurement.

Maximising resolution and target detection
To improve the resolution of the sensor, the number of pixels on the CMOS needs to be increased, which can be accomplished by making each pixel smaller. But smaller pixels can result in insufficient light to create an accurate profile of some target shapes or surfaces. For the LJ-X series, we’ve implemented new technology to create a laser profiler capable of high resolution measurement on any target.

Commercial off the shelf (COTS) MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC products
The market has responded very favorably as the company is now a top supplier of commercial off the shelf (COTS) 1553 and ARINC products to almost every major aerospace company, on hundreds of platforms worldwide.

Last year, Alta released a new product family of direct in-line (NLINE™) network interfaces, providing tremendous flexibility to integrate legacy 1553 or ARINC interfaces directly in wiring harnesses of airborne or ground applications. These NLINE interfaces can provide real-time Ethernet, USB, or Thunderbolt™ connections for almost any computer platform.

The NLINE product family
“The NLINE product family is a culmination of advancing our AltaCore 1553 and ARINC protocol engines in both functionality and reduced packaging to allow direct, in-line cable applications. We made considerable investments to have plastic injection molding engineering and equipment capability brought in-house so we can quickly make new products instead of waiting 6-12 months on outside vendors. We can rapidly design PCBs and harness molds to match various deployed application requirements. We have also tested models to meet rigorous environmental MIL-STD-810 & 461 (shock, temp, EMC) specifications, even full operational water immersion.

Along with our realtime Ethernet ENET products, the NLINE has been adopted for some very large programs,” states Jake Haddock, CTO of Engineering for Alta. He adds:

MIL-STD-1553 network interface cards (NICs)
Alta continues to fill out the NLINE product family as interface cards are still the bread and butter of the COTS market. ARINC and 1553 network interface cards (NICs) are still very popular for embedded integration and test of avionics systems. Alta started with PMC, PCI Express, XMC, PXI style interface boards and then invented their ENET real-time Ethernet converter appliances, which became one of the market’s leading products. In coming full circle, Alta just announced a new, flexible 1553 NIC that customers can design-in into small, custom systems: mezzanine board MEZ-E1553.

The MEZ-E1553 – create signal signatures for cyber threat detections
The MEZ-E1553 is a very small NIC that provides 1-2 channels of 1553 bus channels and even includes raw signal capture to troubleshoot bus cabling, which can be used to create signal signatures for cyber threat detections. The host interface is Alta’s proven ENET FPGA core, so customers can integrate this card with a standard 10/100/1000 Ethernet interface for almost any operating system or microcontroller.

Harry Wild, VP of Sales, explains, “The MEZ-E1553 allows our customers to implement the industry’s most advanced MIL-STD-1553 functional controls directly into their custom system. Coupled with our Mini PCI Express cards, customers have choices to embed 1553 NICs directly on their motherboards.
